The mechanism of cyst formation in the acanthellae of the Acanthocephalus tenuirostris was studied under experimental conditions for the first time. Throughout the entire period of development of acanthellae in the intermediate host, there were no microvilli on their surface. In the tegument of the acanthella, large round vesicles filled with loose material with electron-dense granules were discovered for the first time, which migrated to the subsurface region of the tegument, where their chemical composition on the surface of the acanthella was included in the composition of the outer layer of the cyst.
