The ongoing climatic changes and human activities have a significant impact on the ecosystems of the Kolyma River valley. Analysis of materials of R. E. Trufanova of 1966–1969 on aquatic vascular plants of water bodies of the lower reaches of the Kolyma River, original data and field observations in 2020 and multi-temporal satellite images showed that during more than 50 years there were a number of changes in the vegetation cover of water bodies. Thus, 5
species reported earlier have not been recorded now, however, 7 species were collected there for the first time. Two species (Ceratophyllum demersum and Potamogeton praelongus), which were notable in the vegetation cover previously, have not been found. Most of the water bodies have shallowed and got at the successional “old” stage. It is shown that the greatest diversity of aquatic plants is characteristic of water bodies at the stage of “mature” and “old with a single water mirror”. If the trends continue, most of the studied water bodies will continue unidirectional aging and overgrowing, which will be accompanied by a decrease in species diversity.
