In 2022, 21 samples of wild reindeer (Rangifer tarandus phylarcus) feces and 27 samples of muskoxen (Ovibos moschatus) feces were collected in the Magadan Region, Russia. The material was examined in accordance with GOST R 54627-2011 «Agricultural ruminants: Methods for laboratory diagnosis of helminth infections». Larvae of Protostrongylinae were found in one of the samples from reindeer. These larvae meet criteria for the lung worm Orthostrongylus macrotis previously found in wild reindeer from Taimyr. This finding contributes
to the suggestion that Orthostrongylus was not introduced to Palearctic from Nearctic with muskoxen, and that reindeer indeed can be final hosts for Protostrongylins. No other worms were found in the rest sample set. This might be a result of age-related immunity of both reindeer and muskoxen. As reindeer inhabit isolated mountain area, and muskoxen were brought to Zavyalov Island in 2018–2020, it is doubtful that their helminth fauna could influence each other.
