In recent decades, the northern border of the Siberian moth (Dendrolimus sibiricus Tschetv.) range has shifted in Siberia to 60–63° N. However, it is difficult to predict the further species spread because of insufficient data on  environmental stress factors, including the requirements of the species during winter conditions. We estimated the cold hardiness of the wintering Siberian moth larvae in Yakutian population (the coldest region of the range). D. sibiricus larvae winters only in a supercooled state (supercooling point is -18.5±0.4°C), because do not survive freezing. The lethal temperature for 50% of the larvae was estimated to be -14...-15°C, and for 100% of the larvae it is about -23… -25°C. This study will help better assessing the invasive potential of this species and can be used in mathematical modeling of pest dispersal trends.
