As a result of inshore vessel transect surveys (1500 km length) conducted in the Shelikhov Gulf (northeast partof the Sea of Okhotsk), in July-August 2019, 9706 marine birds of 32 species were recorded. Alcids were the dominant group (12 species, 70% of all counted birds). The distribution density of birds in the western part of the studied water area was noticeably higher than in the eastern one, due to the presence of numerous breeding colonies on the Yamskiye Islands (P’yagina Peninsula) and on the Khalpili Islands (west coast of the Taygonos Peninsula). In the Kamchatka area, large aggregations were found only in the southernmost part, where, judging by the species composition and direction of flights, birds from colonies located 200–300 km to the north were feeding.
