A review of the fossil fishes of the Far East, originating from sediments dating from the Late Cretaceous to the
Late Miocene, and reflecting about 75 million years of fish evolution in the region, is presented. To date, remains of
103 marine fish species from 50 families of 19 orders have been found here, collected from 15 localities. Changes in
the taxonomic composition of ancient fish communities correlate with global climate changes that occurred during this
time interval. The importance of the study of fossil fishes for the reconstruction of geographic and climatic features of
different epochs is shown.
