This paper provides a brief overview of vegetation formation, soil functioning, and microbiota adaptability in the northern districts. An ecosystem is a set of cohabiting organisms and their conditions of existence, which are in a natural relationship with each other and form a system of interdependent biotic and abiotic phenomena and processes. An important feature of the northern territories, along with high reserves of natural resources, is their strong vulnerability and low recovery capacity of ecosystems, which manifest themselves as such characteristics as: small species diversity, low primary biological productivity, etc. The study of these territories corresponds to the strategy under the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated 10.26.2020 No. 645 «On the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and ensuring national security until 2035», according to which it is necessary to pay great attention to ensuring environmental and biological safety in the implementation of state policy on the development of the Arctic
