We compared the winter – early spring daily activity patterns of GPS-collared wolves in several habitats: the boreal mountain forest-tundra of the Kolyma, the deciduous forests of the East European Plain in the Kaluga region and the steppe of the northwestern Caspian region, all of them in Russia. Daily movements and average speed in the boreal mountain forest-tundra are similar to those in the forest, and are significantly lower, than in the steppe. The distribution of daily movement dynamics in the boreal mountain forest-tundra differs from those, of other natural zones: activity at night is minimal, which is associated with extremely low night temperatures.
