Cold hardiness during wintering of the Asiatic toad Bufo gargarizans Cantor, 1842, the northernmost species of the family in the Russian Far East, was studied. The supercooling point (SCP) and low lethal temperature (LLT) were determined for sexually mature individuals. It was found out that the average SCP of acclimated animals was -3.5±0.1°C. At -1°C, toads survived in a state of supercooling. Temperatures below -1°C resulted in freezing and death of the animals. Thus, the cold hardiness of B. gargarizans is comparable to that, of three previously studied toad spe-cies – Mongolian (Strauchbufo raddei Strauch, 1876), common (Bufo bufo L., 1758) and green (Bufotes sitibundus Pal-las, 1771).
