The study of small mammal communities was carried out on the territory of Yakutia in 1979–2023. A total of 12 sites in the valleys of large Yakutian rivers were examined, with a total of 50 000 cone-days. The study covered the middle taiga (including the southern bound), the northern woodlands, forest-tundra, and tundra in the valleys. It has been established that each landscape corresponds to specific communities, which differ primarily in structure. The group of community-forming species includes 7 small mammal species. As we move northward within the taiga zone, the composition and community structure change: monodominance increases, dominants differ regularly, which ensures the coexistence of a number of species with similar requirements to the ecological niche. The latter two phenomena periodically provide a high abundance of a wide range of species in conditions of resource deficit and severe pressure of the climatic factors.
