The breeding population of the Barnacle goose on Kolguev Island has increased since 1980. The world’s largest known Barnacle goose colony, located in the Peschanka River delta, had grown from 5000 breeding pairs in 1994 to 70000 pairs in 2019. We compared data of surveys conducted in 2006, 2012, 2019 and 2023 by means of transects and permanent plots. The data obtained indicate a decrease in nesting density in the core areas of the colony, where the nesting density of geese is maximum. At the same time, the nesting density increased in the edge parts of the colony and in the adjacent upland areas, indicating further expansion of Barnacle geese from Peschanka Delta to inland areas, where they occupy more newer habitats. The decrease in density in the core area of the colony can be a result of the collection of down of Barnacle goose in 2018–2019.
