The species richness of the warm-loving Cladocera is much higher in subarctic mountainous areas located to the south than in the Arctic lowland delta of the Lena River. On the contrary, the diversity of Copepoda of the Calanoida and Harpacticoida orders is higher on the plains than on the mountain plateaus of Central Siberia. The most significant factors in the formation of microcrustacean taxocenes are: altitude, permafrost depth and hydrological type of water body. In lowland regions, taxocenes variability is determined by a set of hydrological and hydrochemical factors correlating with the age of the water body. In mountains, taxocenes variability is related to the altitude above sea level, which determines the main characteristics of water bodies.
