The results of a field experiment on the effect of different numbers of passes of logging equipment on soils, soil organic matter and changes in ecosystem parameters in the first three years after logging are presented. It has been revealed that cutting down forests removes 44% of the ecosystem’s carbon. Soil carbon reserves remain the most stable, but the redistribution of carbon between mineral and organic horizons changes. Changes in the morphological, physicochemical properties of soils and soil organic matter during logging and subsequent reforestation are presented. The number of passes and the alignment of the trail ruts determine the characteristics of the subsequent reforestation process, changes in ground cover plants and the emission of carbon dioxide from the soil surface.
